Why we love it: Guzmania are a type of bromeliad - epiphytic plants, meaning they grow on the surface of a plant and derive moisture and nutrients from the air, rain and water around it.

Best for: An area with bright, indirect light that's quite humid.

Easy to kill rating (1 = invincible, 5 = needs extra TLC) : 3-  A bromeliad flowers once only but the blooms stay on the plant for 3 to 6 months.
After flowering is over, the bromeliad will make new shoots that (in perfect conditions) will also flower. Water into the centre of the plant.
